What is the best and safest voltage
to use for your project?
The most common LED strip lights come in 3 different
voltages 12VDC, 24VDC and 120VAC
What is the difference in LED stip light voltages?
120 Volt IP68
Pros: Low voltage loss
Low light loss
Longer runs can be made
Great for outdoor use
Cons: Higher cost
Large, heavy, bulky
Large wire connectors
Very difficult to bend
Difficult to install in crown molding, cabinets, etc.
Higher voltage is not as safe as low voltage
The coating or jacket yellows and fades over time
The LED chips run hotter and less efficiently
24 Volt IP20 BEST CHOICE
Pros: 1/2 the voltage loss VS 12 Volts strips
2X the Lumen / light over 12 Volts strips
2X the length runs can me made over 12 volt strips
Great for indoor use. Small and easy to install
Perfect for crown molding indirect lighting and cabinets
Safer than 120 volt strips
No coating or jacket means no yellowing
Brighter light
Runs cooler
Smaller wire connectors
Cons: Not for outdoor use
12 Volt IP20
Pros: Great for indoor use. Small and easy to install
Ok for crown molding lighting and cabinet (short runs)
Safer than 120 volt strips.
No coating or jacket means, no yellowing
Brighter light
Runs cooler
Smaller wire connectors
Cons: Not for outdoor use
Only good in most cases for 16' runs
2X the voltage loss VS 24 Volts strips
2X the Lumen / light loss over 24 Volts strips
1/2 the length runs can be made over 24 volt strips
